Handpicked by Amrita
Founded by Amrita Bhattacharya and Amit Sen, Handpicked by Amrita is a deliciously messy world of food anthropology, driven by an insatiable curiosity and love of cooking. It is their mouthwatering adventure where they’ve taken the scenic route - one with lots of food stops - travelling far and wide to unearth recipes that tell stories - of tradition, culture and the kind of flavours that make you close your eyes and go “wow”
Founded in January 2023 by Amrita Bhattacharya and Amit Sen, this mouthwatering adventure is what happens when a former Bengali professor with a Ph.D. and a veteran filmmaker decide they’re too passionate with food to stick to their day jobs. Goodbye chalkboards and film reels, hello kitchen knives and spice racks!
Amrita and Amit have plunged headfirst into the deliciously messy world of food anthropology, driven by an insatiable curiosity and, let’s be honest, a love of cooking. They’ve taken the scenic route (and by scenic, we mean one with lots of food stops), traveling far and wide to unearth recipes that tell stories—of traditions, cultures, and the kind of flavours that make you close your eyes and sigh, “Wow.”
Right now, they’re cooking up a storm in two fascinating culinary corners: Diasporic Bengali Cuisine, which is basically what happens when Bengalis pack their mustard seeds and love of fish to go global, and Hilsa, the queen of fish who demands both reverence and the patience to deal with her tiny, annoying bones.
